Day 28 - Rio Grande Canyon

Wendy and Emma gettin' ready to picnic. Down in the gorge, the sunshine is actually hot. The breeze is cold. Perfect.

This is the tip of a giant landslide along one of the hikes in the gorge.

Pure joyous fun along the Rio Grande.

Crossing the Rio Grande.

Waaaay down on that bench is the Vista Verde trail, recommended to us by some folks we met from New Jersey.

Unfortunately some don't repect this incredible land.

The shadow people are at it again.

The extremely flat Rio Grande Valley. The river literally cuts a deep narrow channel through the land - separating the two sides for miles and miles.

These guys are from Kansas. I'm sure the little one's name is Toto. The bigger one kept muttering stuff about this not being Kansas anymore. D'uh. Kansas is black and white.

America by Car - an ode to Lee.

Darn! Just cleared those bug splats yesterday!

That's Taos in the distance on the "other side" of the Rio. This side's sparsely populated. Very sparse.

The dizzy bridge to Taos over the Rio Grande gorge.

This giant gash is barely visible on the plains away from the rim.

In Espanola the Casino and Bowling Alley parking is jammed on a Monday night.

Big city lights - Espanola. The perfect modern one night pit stop.

Meanwhile the Santa Fe'ans have made a great leap forward in economical and environmentally friendly transportation with the hover car.
